08 Jun Return of the hub
DMSF HUB FESTIVAL IS A HUGE SUCCESS ONCE AGAIN!
The brain-child of Programme Manager Bex Wilson, born in the summer of 2016, our youth project The DMSF Hub made a very welcome return to Manchester at the end of last month.
Using her know-how as a Team GB athlete and Sochi Olympian, Bex and her team created a dynamic afternoon dedicated to celebrating sport. The Hub Festival team welcomed young people aged 14-21 to take part in a range of activities; from DJ’ing to Futsal Tournaments, to dance classes, boxing, dodgeball, archery, table tennis and more at the event held at Factory Youth Zone in Harpurhey.
Bex told us: “What was most apparent for me was the energy and partnership working to produce our most successful festival yet. Everybody stepped up and I was proud to see so many of our kids, 140 to be exact, from different areas integrating and getting involved.
“Awadh, one of our former participants and now qualified coach, did an excellent job of organising and refereeing the Futsal Tournament with help from our apprentice Tom. Huge attendance with three teams from FC United for the tournament, helped create a great competitive atmosphere in the sports hall. The recreation area was a fantastic addition by Factory Youth Zone with many fun activities and really set the vibe for what we all at DMSF envisage a youth festival to look and feel like. I am told we have some great photo booth shots – so watch this space!
“The broader objective of DMSF is to give young people a purpose, through and beyond sport. Our Foundation works with 1180 young people in schools and community venues across Greater Manchester. The Hub project specifically engages 14-21 year olds and provides sport, activity and mentoring to those who would not have otherwise been able to access them.”
Details of our next Hub festival, due to take place in May, will be available shortly. Watch this space!
