On 5th July DMSF held the inaugural Building the Future, event which provided 80 of our young people with the opportunity to experience industries directly related to the construction sector, including plumbing to surveying as well as health and the digital sector.
Many of the young people who attended the event are being educated in Pupil Referral Units, as they struggle to engage with the national curriculum. Some have learning disabilities and many struggle with their behaviour at school.
These young people can miss out on the opportunity for work experience and are often discouraged from seeking employment. The aim of this event was to engage young people with practically based exercises and demonstrations that provide an insight into the construction industry and raise their career expectations.
The feedback from schools and the young people themselves has been extremely positive and we couldn’t be more proud of the way the young people conducted themselves during the afternoon.
For every young person we engage with, many more are still slipping through the net. In order for us to continue to make a positive difference we need your continued support.
If you would like more information on how we are taking the chance out of success and making it a choice, and how you can help, we’d love to hear from you.
