I’m maturing as an athlete and I think I’m only scratching the surface of what I am capable of, I really think I can get better.
Earlier this month we were delighted to report that DMSF has its first ever homegrown British Champion!
DMSF athlete Aimee Pratt and DMSF Performance Coach Vicente Modahl achieved a new personal best, clocking a World Leading, Championship Best Performance, of 9min 30.73secs, winning GOLD in the women’s 3000m Steeplechase at the Müller British Athletics Championships 2020, held on Saturday 5 August at her home track in Manchester.
Aimee went on to compete in her third and final Steeplechase of the season on Sunday 13 September at the Internationales Stadionfest in Berlin, Germany, an annual track and field athletics meeting at the Olympic Stadium. She said:
“I finished my season with a 9.32 and 4th place at @ISTAF_Berlin. I was slightly disappointed to not to have broken that 9.30 this year, but I’m going into winter more motivated than ever and excited to improve on my weaknesses.”
The short but hectic track season is over and we are now focussing on the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year, but first we have a two month base period where we will build the first layer of our training pyramid to set a strong foundation.
In this period, we will complete one or two road races before we head to isolation and training in high altitude at the end of September. In February and March, we will have an indoor season where we will [as outsiders] try to qualify for the European Championship in Poland, which takes place 5-7th March 2021. We both had a one-week rest last week (w/c 14/09/20), that was our holiday, now its full steam ahead!
This was Aimee’s first British Championship title and she is currently the fastest in the WORLD! Aimee and coach, we are SO proud of you.
