21-year old Aimee Pratt has been officially selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the World Athletic Championships in Doha, competing on 27th September 2019, 5pm (UK Time).

Aimee, who was discovered by DMSF aged 13, is supported and coached by DMSF Performance Coach Vicente Modahl. She said: “I’m going to Doha….! I’m so excited to have made my first senior World Championships team. I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone that has supported me to make this possible, and to my coach who made sure I had the opportunity to step up to senior level this season. I can’t wait to pull-on this vest and represent my country again!”

Coach Vicente said: “For me it’s a milestone because one of the hardest things to do with a young athlete coming through, is to qualify for a senior championship because the level is so much harder than age-group championships.

“As a coach I knew she was ready for the big time but you can never predict when the athlete will actually step up to that level. Today I am a happy coach because now I can realistically start with confidence the work to cementing her as a senior international athlete.

“I also feel it’s a major moment for DMSF because it proves that myself as a coach and Diane as the CEO of the foundation, which we co-founded together has, against the odds, been able to take a child from a tough inner city environment all the way to world athletics level. I can now see the finish line to our initial vision when we established the charity of bringing an athlete all the way to the 2020 Olympic Games.

“Diane and her team have also achieved so much more than we initially ever imagined when we set up the charity and we now have more than 650 young people each week across Manchester accessing our community sessions.”

Well done Aimee, team DMSF will be rooting for you!
